Do you trust the recipes you find online?

If you are looking for some recipes to help spice up your meals in the evening then the internet is the first place I would look. There are so many different recipes online for everything you can imagine, there are simple desserts you can make like this recipe here for lemon treats or more complex ones for complete meals like these chicken pot pies. However first of all how do you know you can trust the recipes you are looking at to turn out the way they promise? And how can you find ones which don’t take forever to make?

The first problem is a really tough one to deal with, I mean until you have actually tried it out then you don’t know how easy it is going to be to do or how well it will turn out. Although if the recipe is popular then there is usually a section on these sites for comments, which means you will be able to read what other people think of the recipe, how it turned out for them and any tweaks that they had to make to get the recipe to work etc. If you are more of an action person than a research person then you could just have a go at making a bunch of them and see how they turn out. Then to save waste you can freeze some of the ones which went well and save them to eat later, and the ones that didn’t work well or you don’t like the taste of can go in the bin. That way you can start to build up your own little personalized cookbook or recipes that you know you can make and that taste good.

Trying to filter out recipes which don’t take hours to make is just about doing a little digging. The best way is to find a website that has a category for quick recipes, or some tell you ones which take 20 minutes or less etc, and then you can click through and they have all been sorted for you, if you don’t have that option then instead you need to look at the amount of steps it has to see how long you think it would take. Keep an eye out for ones which ask you to marinate the meat and leave it, as the last thing you want to do is get started and then find you have to leave the meat in a sauce overnight, and also avoid ones with a big ingredient list because you can tell they are going to be a huge hassle.

One of the most popular recipe sites at the moment is AllRecipes.com that has tens of thousands of different recipes for you to look at. It isn’t a perfect site and I find it a bit of a struggle at times to find new recipes as I look around the site, primarily because recipes seem to be in multiple categories, but they do show you the ones the users like the most first which helps. You might be thinking that it sounds like a lot of hassle to dig up some good recipes online, but don’t forget they are free so the only thing you are going to spend is time. Plus remember that you only have to do all this research and spend all this time finding good recipes once, then when you have 20 or so good recipes to follow that will last you for years!
