Perhaps the pork month puts you inside the mood for many barbecue. What sounds more appetizing is a super tender textured pork meal with taste of the real smoked barbecue – pulled pork.

Pulled pork can be quite a nice pork shoulder or butt that’s smoked all day at a low temperature. This easy recipe infuses the pork using a pleasant, smoky barbecue flavor and aroma while slow-cooked inside a slow cooker or slow cooker. Since I typically add just enough liquid for my sauce so my meat doesn’t swim in a pool of water, my pulled pork eventually ends up somewhat saucy resulting to an incredibly moist, tasty and tender meat that merely falls on the touch of your fork.

Ingredients

6 lbs. pork shoulder or pork butt, trimmed of the body fat
1 large onion, sliced finely
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup tomato paste
2/3 cup of apple cider vinegar treatment, or wine vinegar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons mustard
2 teaspoons paprika
3-4 pieces crushed garlic, or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
A dash of cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt, increase the as required
1 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
3/4 cup water

Directions

Scatter onions on the bottom of the slow cooker, or slow cooker then place the pork on the top therefore it sits about the onions. Form your barbecue sauce by whisking all remaining ingredients together inside a mixing bowl. Increase the amount of pepper or salt if required. Pour 1 / 2 of the sauce on the pork. Reserve one other half. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours maximum.

Following the long cooking, remove pork from slow cooker or slow cooker and transfer with a large bowl. Cut the meat into strips, or shred using a fork then put back into slow cooker. Cook further for approximately 5 minutes, or until meat has assimilated sauce sufficient. This easy recipe for pulled pork may be held on the “warm” setting in the slow cooker, or crock pot for serving. You could serve on soft sandwich rolls, or plain rice topped with extra barbecue sauce, along with a side of coleslaw for some crunch.

At one time I forgot to accept the meat out from the freezer the evening before to defrost, I am in a position to cook exactly the same easy recipe for pulled pork during my pressure cooker, frozen, for around 40 minutes with excellent results. You may also give a healthy dose of liquid smoke to the sauce to get a stronger barbecue flavor.

Have a barbecue-filled pork month!

Selecting a Slow Cooker

Have you been in the market for a crock pot, and therefore are contemplating a Cuisinart slow cooker?

If that’s the case, then this article is prepared for you.

Truth be told, anyone searching for slow cookers will find a wearisome quantity of choices on the market. There are large ones and small ones. There are many sizes, shapes, colors, and styles from which to choose. What’s a discriminating shopper to do? Which product should you purchase?

Well, I have arrived at the opinion that any product within the Cuisinart slow cooker line is an excellent choice.

Here’s Why: There are 3 points to consider when choosing a crock pot:

Cuisinart Slow Cooker Point #1: Solid and Trusted Brand Name.

Cuisinart has been around since the early 1970′s, and can be remembered for introducing the food processor on the American market. Despite the fact that the firm no longer exists, the brand name lives on.

It’s now a part of Conair Corporation, who has maintained the Cuisinart reputation for excellence in all of its products, including the the Cuisinart Slow Cooker line.

Cuisinart Slow Cooker Point #2: The Incredible Variety of Styles

The Cuisinart is available in a number of different styles, such as the quite popular chrome colored cookers. These chrome units provide a touch of elegance and feeling of style within any kitchen. However, if chrome is not your thing, you’ll find a variety of colors to match your style.

Cuisinart Slow Cooker Point #3: Handy Features

Additionally, Cuisinarts can be purchased with high tech electronics that can greatly simplify your cooking responsibilities. Standard adjustments include temperature control as well as timing capabilities that enable you to focus less on the food preparation activity, and more on more pleasant things.

As virtually any harried chef may confirm, there are occassions when you may forget about turning down the heat on your cooking food. This can prove disastrous for the meal, and could well become a fire threat. An automatic warming option can ease this problem since the Cuisinart slow cooker will automatically reduce the heat to a simmer at the appropriate time.

Lastly there are a few items that might not seem overly significant initially, but can prove to be quite useful as time goes on. A retracting power cord is a nice addition, and can be quite handy for storing teh device. Additionally there are rubber feet on the bottom of the units for higher stability.

Conclusion:

Yessiree, slow cookers can be a wonderful addition to any modern kitchen. And the Cuisinart slow cooker is a solid choice foe everyone shopping for a new model!

As we head into fall, I like to break out the slow cooker. I love being able to throw in some ingredients and go about my day, knowing there is a warm, delicious meal waiting at day’s end. I thought you might enjoy the simple recipe for BBQ ribs.

2 lbs. boneless ribs (Beef, Pork, Baby-back)

1 lg. onion, chopped

1 tbsp. garlic salt

1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce

Broil the meat under the broiler in your oven for about 10 minutes each side. Long enough to slightly brown them. I like to brown the meat before putting it in the slow cooker. Browning tends to release the natural juices while reducing some of the fat.

Combine all ingredients in crockpot and cook on the low setting for 6 to 8 hours.

The result – tender ribs that melt in your mouth. Simple and delicious!

Joy of Slow Cooking

I love to cook, but sometimes life just gets in the way.

The solution? A slow cooker! I gather the ingredients, toss them in and forget about it for a few hours. And if you get busy, food doesn’t overcook or burn if left longer than required. My particular model switches to a “keeping it warm” mode until I return.

Liquids do not boil away as in conventional methods of cooking. Meats are marinating in their own natural juices and tend to be “fall of the bone” tender.

Here are some tips for easy use –

I always “brown” the meat before adding it to the recipe. While this step may not be necessary, remember it takes longer for cold items to warm up and begin cooking. Browning also reduces the grease from items like ground beef.

Again, to jump start the process, when adding liquids (beef or chicken stock, for example) recipes work best if the liquid which is added to the other ingredients has been already heated to boiling point.

Traditional recipes can be modified for the slow cooker; most moisture based recipes can easily be prepared for the slow cooker – stews, soups, and sauces.

Just remember that since liquids don’t evaporate as they would if boiled, less is required. Play with your favorite recipe; it’s pretty hard to kill it in a crock-pot.

Don’t over do it – cookers should be filled somewhere between half full and no more than two-thirds full.

Vegetables cook slower than meat and poultry in a slow cooker so if using them, put vegetables in first, at the bottom and around sides of the utensil. Then add meat and cover the food with liquid such as broth, water or barbecue sauce.

One hour on high equals two hours on low.

Dairy products such as milk, sour cream and cheese also do not hold up well to several hours of simmering. To avoid curdling, wait until the last hour of cooking time to stir in these items. Heavy cream can stand up to heavy cooking.

If you prefer your vegetables on the al dente side, add them in the last hour of cooking.

Almost anything is improved with wine – both in and out of the chef.

After a long day working around the cabin, nothing beats the aroma beef stew or chicken noodle soup simmering in the slow cooker.

Sit back, pour a glass of wine and take things slow. You deserve it!
